Two Silverbacks competed at this year’s IBJJF Master World tournament in Las Vegas, Nevada. Silverback coaches, Jason Schmitt and Scott Roffers stepped on the mat to challenge themselves at what is one of the biggest events in Jiu-Jitsu.
After submitting my first opponent via a triangle choke from guard, coach Roffers won the semi-final by Brabo Choke. On to the final…
Scott pulled guard early and attempted a few sweeps. His opponent was able to flatten him out in his half guard for one advantage point. They each received an advantage point for submission attempts. This put the final score at 0- with the opponent ahead two advantages to zero.
Coach Roffers took second place in the World Master 7 Heavyweight division out of eleven.
After submitting the quarter final opponent in the open division, Scott had to face a very tough opponent. He accumulated 4 total advantage points in his pass attempts, but still had a zero in the points column. His opponent did score back points and Scott escaped to continue in attempting to pass.
Near the of the match Scott finally passed his opponent’s guard right into triple mount. Unfortunately there was only one second remaining and you need three seconds to secure a score. Had he scored, he would have advanced to the finals.
Losing the semi-final landed coach Roffers in third place for the absolute division.
Silverback coach Jason Schmitt also stepped up to the challenge at Master Worlds in the Master 3 Middle Weight Brown Belt division. He attempted a nice arm bar early in the match, but the opponent was able to counter out. Jason went the distance, but fell short in points.
