Head coach Scott Roffers headed to Lisbon, Portugal to compete in the IBJJF Europeans Jiu-Jitsu Championships.

Scott competed in the Master 7 Heavyweight Black Belt division. He received a first round bye in the five man bracket.

Scott won the semi-final with a score of 7-0.

With just over two minutes remaining and Scott ahead 7-0, his opponent unfortunately injured his own knee while attempting a half guard lock-down position.

The tournament offers an “open division” for all competitors in the age group that placed 3rd or higher in their weight class. Master 7 age group consisted of 43 competitors across all weight classes. Of those that placed, 12, including Scott, signed up for the open division.

Scott won the quarter final match by a knee-on-stomach submission.

Holding on to two points scored early in the match via sweep, Scott won the semi-final.

With a 7-0 shutout, Scott won the open division championship!

No matter the outcome, anyone who competes reaps the benefits of preparing mentally and physically for the challenge. Of course it is nice to bring home some hardware now and then.
